Check a VAT Number (VIES)

DESCRIPTION

This add-on is a webservice connected to the Value Added Tax Information Exchange System (VIES). It eases the validation of VAT numbers of businesses registered within the EU. It plays an important role in combating tax fraud and contributes to enhancing transparency and tax compliance in the context of cross-border transactions.

WHAT THIS ADD-ON DOES

• Validates VAT numbers of EU-based suppliers via the European Commission’s VIES web service.
• Displays VAT validation results in the “Supplier VIES” tab, linked to supplier files.
• Allows users to initiate VAT validation through a “Check VIES” button, with a daily limit of five calls per supplier to prevent IP blocking.
• Retrieves and converts JSON responses into XML for storage in the t_sup_vies_ table, which feeds into supplier records.
• Provides validation status, supplier details, and error codes from the VIES response for better transparency and troubleshooting.
